Interesting article from Inc on the three types of people that you need to fire fast
In my article about lessons from the first nuclear winter of the internet, I talked about the importance of attitude during tough times. People who are positive and find solutions are the gift that keeps on giving.
In this article from Inc, Mike Maddock takes an even firmer stand He contends that there are three types of employees that you need to fire quickly or your company can’t grow: Victims; Non-Believers; and Know It Alls.
The conventional hiring wisdom has downplayed attitude. We have valued (over-valued?) intelligence, pedigree, talent and maybe even hard work. These qualities obviously matter but if they come packaged in a corrosive attitude they are rarely worth it. We have lionized hyper-competitive meat eaters. Maybe it’s time to celebrate the “glue” people who keep the business together and working well. We often give lip service to team work but fill the office with soloists.
